When Turbie Twist® hair towels hit the market in 1995, this was un-trekked, uncharted territory. Awareness of the role that your towel plays in your hair’s health was still in its nascent state. Most people still performed the daily balancing act demanded by the great fluffy bath towel.
Over the past 25 years, however, the practicality and benefits of hair towels have transformed them into a mainstay of the haircare industry. Now, there are many choices for you to consider – it can get overwhelming! They range in size, materials, and even the way they sit on your head.
Turbie Twist® Hair Towels are unique among hair towels. Don’t believe us? Here are four things which set them apart from your other options on the market.
Four Things Which Make Turbie Twist® Hair Towels Special
Turbie Twist® Hair Towels are a class of their own. If you’re looking for a high-quality, affordable hair towel which brings out your natural beauty with minimal effort, a Turbie Twist® is for you. Here’s why.
1. Made From Cotton With a High Thread Count
Did you know that the concept of the cotton bath towel originated in Turkey sometime around the 17thcentury? When they hit the bath scene in Europe, they were an instant and wild success. Lightweight, absorbent, and luxuriousagainst the skin, they also required skilled craftspeople to operate the intricate looms capable of creating such a tightly woven fabric out of superfine threads. For the next two hundred years, only the richest households enjoyed this wonder material which could absorb 27 times its weight in liquid.
Towels didn’t become affordable – thus widely used – until the 19th century. Mechanical looms were developed which could reduce the thread count necessary to create a towel, cheaply. They could also create the looped threads so commonly found today. Today, you’re likely to find towels sporting both when you go looking for a cheap cotton bath towel. They feel amazing on your skin but they’re horrible for your hair. (Here’s an explanation why.)
When it comes to using cotton on your hair, it’s critical that you use high-thread count cotton. Thread count conveys several features which you need. First, with the fibers being closer together, it creates a smoother surface. This is why cotton towels with a lower thread count feel rougher. Second, it retains the natural absorbency which makes cotton so incredibly moisture-wicking. More fibers mean more chances to absorb water quickly.
So, want something natural on your head? Our Turbie Twists® are cotton hair towels done right.
2. Made with the Right Type of Microfiber
Microfiber began as a science experiment in a Japanese lab in the late 1950s, but it was the Swedes who perfected it into the super fabric we know and love today. However, did you know that there are two types of microfibers?
Which one you put on your head will make a world of difference. Make sure you get the right one.
When microfiber is created, the ultra-thin fibers are treated in one of two ways. They’re either left whole, or they’re split. Extremely soft polyester clothing – think fine fleece jackets – is often microfiber with whole fibers. Silky and warm, such microfiber foregoes its absorbent qualities in order to provide a soft fabric against the skin. It feels great to wear, but it will do nothing to help dry your hair.
Microfiber doesn’t gain its absorbent qualities until its fibers are split. At that point, it gains an almost supernatural ability to wick up any liquid in its path. It’s also a lot fluffier (minus the annoying lint). That’s what makes it so popular for cleaning and polishing.
If you’ve been cutting up old fleece sweaters to make hair towels, you may want to consider switching to a microfiber Turbie Twist®. We use the right type of microfiber to help you keep your locks perfect without additional effort.
3. It’s Simply One Size Fits All
Whether you’ve got a thick, wild mane of glory or luxurious sheets of silk, you don’t have to worry if the Turbie Twist® will fit. Our hair towels are one-size-fits-all – because they’re already the perfect size!
We’ve simplified your search for the perfect hair towel by doing all the hard work to find the perfect hair towel size. Years of experimenting with materials, shapes, and sizes have helped us develop the perfect hair towel that doesn’t leave too much material unused or not enough space to adequately wrap your hair.
4. They’re as Easy as They are Stylish
Remember all those mornings when it took longer to get that towel twist just right than it did to make breakfast? With the Turbie Twist®, we banished that little time suck.
Turbie Twists® are unique among their kind because we included an elastic loop at the exact spot, you’ll need it when you wrap up your hair. Combined with the one-of-a-kind shape of the hair towel itself, the only thing that will be faster than the speed of your hair drying is how long it takes you to put it in your hair towel.
What’s more, it’s not just fast and easy – it’s also stylish. Enjoy a perfect turban every time. Our variety of colors and prints will let you match your hair towels to the rest of your bath attire. Sure, it’s a towel and you’re in the privacy of your own home, but you’re also wearing it every day. You can – and should – still rock that hair towel in style.
